Do you need to project more confidence?

If someone gives you feedback that you need to “project more confidence” …

Ask them to give you specific examples. 

What EXACTLY do they want you to do differently?  

What is the benefit to the business of you making those changes? 

Do you agree with them? 

If you do, then it’s time to figure out HOW to make the changes. 

Let’s go! 

BUT … if they can’t do any of that, 

Please feel free to IGNORE the feedback. 

Because without any of that detail, “confidence” feedback smells a lot like…

• “Please could you just behave, communicate and generally ‘be’ a bit more like me.”

And that is NOT feedback worth spending any time on. 

Professional development is crucial to success in this industry. The last thing we need to do is waste time internalising vague and unhelpful statements like this.
