Becoming a confident public speaker

Uncategorized Apr 08, 2025

How do you feel about public speaking?

If you’re like 90% of my clients, I’m going to guess... not good. 😀

But I also know you like a challenge, so I’m here to give you my number ONE tip.

This is about mastering the MENTAL game.

Tips about body-language, tone of voice, pace etc. are great, but NOT if you’re so consumed with nerves that you can’t focus on anything other than your beating heart and the fear that everyone will see your hands shaking.

We need a strategy to manage our nerves, so that we can focus on presentation.

In the meantime, here’s my number ONE tip:

✅ Next time you speak publicly, take control of how you DESCRIBE that experience to yourself AFTERWARDS. Do NOT tell a sad, negative, judgemental story.

The more negative emotion you attach to the experience, the more you teach your brain that speaking in public is a dangerous and painful thing.

Your brain does NOT want you to do dangerous and painful things.

So don’t be surprised, if the next time you find yourself standing up to speak in public, your brain freaks out. It will do its level best to persuade you to sit down - By sending you FEAR and NERVOUSNESS. 🤷‍♀️

If you want to lower that fear, you need to take more control over the story you tell yourself about your CURRENT experience.

We don’t have to pretend it was awesome. There are thousands of more positive, compassionate or neutral perspectives to choose from in between.

If you want some help with that, come and talk to me. 🔥
